The developers at Naughty Dog went into Uncharted: The Lost Legacy with every intention of making a simple add-on to last year’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. That didn’t happen.

What they delivered instead could only be the feat of the single most obsessive storytellers in all of big budget video games.

Rather than an add-on, the venerated studio accidentally made a whole other, 10-hour long standalone game. And if the 45 minute preview I played was any indication, it’s one that feels unlike any Uncharted title that came before it. 

“We tend to do that,” said director Kurt Margenau. “It’s just that Naughty Dog mentality. We want everything we do to be bigger and better than the last thing we did.” 

After seeing just how far that one-upmanship took them, I can understand why Margenau sounded
