CLEVELAND, Ohio — To give you an idea what you’d be in for at the animated “Captain Underpants,” understand that the movie begins and ends on a joke about the planet Uranus. No judgment. This is just to say that most, if not all, of the humor is of the fifth-grade-boy, naughty, potty variety.
But anyone who’s read Dav Pilkey’s best-selling series of “Captain Underpants” books (he also co-wrote the film script) is going to see the movie for that very (potty-humor) reason.
George (voiced by Kevin Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch) are best-buddy elementary school pals. When not in school playing pranks on Principal Krupp (Ed Helms), they hang out in their tree fort writing their self-published “Captain Underpants” comic book series.
